Abby’s GGU Life

: ABEGAIL MATOTE Fall Semester 2019

Hi, I am Abby Matote and I am from the Philippines.

It was always been my dream to study in a foreign country and I made it because of Geumgang university. Geumgang University offers scholarship for foreigners who wants to study and learn korean language, and this program leads me here at GGU.

The school is domiciled in Nonsan which is very far away from Seoul and is surrounded by mountains and rice fields. It is just a small university but equipped with large learning facilities. The university is very calm and quiet, you may feel bored but for me it is the best place to study because it is far from the noise of the city.

Living in korea as a student is a challenging one. On my first week in GGU, I struggled a lot. I don’t even understand what my professor is saying because I really don’t have any background about korean language. Eventually, I begin to understand it and I started to embrace it with the help of my professor, my classmates and my friends.

At GGU, I met new friends coming from different countries. All of them are kind and approachable. They helped me survived in a world different from the world I used to live.

Those freezing moments when attending class because of the cold weather was so good. I enjoyed being a student again. Also, during our cultural classes, the school brought us to places where we can experience korea’s rich culture. This gave me a better understanding about korea.

Participating in a partnership program for foreigners and korean students where in you will have weekly conversation with your korean partner, as well as staying in a room with a korean student as your roommate were very useful, helpful and effective. Communicating and spending time with them improves my korean language skill.

My life in GGU was a meaningful one. I learned a lot here. I became more independent and braver. I consider South Korea as my second home. In Korea, I feel safe. I got a chance to lived one my dreams here. And in here, I will continue chasing for my dreams.

안녕하세요, 저는 Abby Matote이고 필리핀에서 왔습니다.

저는 항상 외국에서 공부하고 싶다는 꿈을 가져왔고 그것을 금강대학교에서 이루었습니다. 금강대학교는 한국어를 배우고 공부하고 싶어 하는 외국인들에게 장학금을 제공합니다. 이 프로그램이 저를 GGU로 이끌었습니다.

학교는 서울에서 멀리 떨어진 논산에 있고, 산과 논으로 둘러싸여 있습니다. 이곳은 작은 학교지만 큰 학습 시설을 갖추고 있습니다. 매우 깔끔하고 조용해서 당신은 지루하다고 느낄 수 있지만, 나에게는 시끄러운 도시에서 멀리 떨어져 있어서 이곳이 공부하기 위한 최적의 장소입니다. 

한국에서 학생으로 생활하는 것은 어려운 일입니다. 첫째 주에 저는 GGU에서 많은 어려움을 겪었습니다. 나는 정말로 한국어에 대한 배경지식이 없었기 때문에 교수님이 말하는 것조차 이해하지 못했습니다. 결국, 나는 이것을 이해하기 시작했고 교수님과 반 친구들 그리고 나의 친구들의 도움으로 받아들이기 시작했습니다.

GGU에서 나는 다른 국가에서 온 새로운 친구들을 만났습니다. 그들은 모두 친절하고 다가가기 쉬웠습니다. 그들은 내가 살았던 세상과 다른 세상에서 살아갈 수 있도록 도와주었습니다.

추운 날씨 때문에 수업에 참석할 때의 그 순간은 너무 좋았습니다. 나는 다시 학생이 되는 것을 즐겼습니다. 또한, 문화 수업 중에 학교가 우리를 한국의 풍부한 문화를 경험할 수 있는 장소에 데려다 주었습니다. 이것은 나에게 한국을 더 이해할 수 있도록 해주었습니다. 

외국인을 위한 파트너십 프로그램에 참여하면 당신은 매주 당신의 한국 파트너와 대화할 수 있습니다. 그 뿐만이 아니라 한국 학생과 룸메이트가 되면 매우 유용하고 도움 되고 효과적입니다. 그들과 대화하고 시간을 보내면 한국어 실력이 향상됩니다.

나의 GGU 삶은 의미 있는 것이었습니다. 나는 이곳에서 많은 것을 배웠습니다. 나는 더욱 독립적이고 용감해졌습니다. 나는 이곳에서 나의 꿈을 살릴 기회를 얻었습니다. 그리고 이곳에서 나는 계속 내 꿈을 쫓을 것입니다.

나에게 이런 훌륭한 기회 주고 놀라운 여행을 할 수 있게 해줘서 감사합니다, GGU!
