Q. Hello! We're Geumgang Webzine. Thank you for your willingness to interview. Please introduce yourself.

A. Hello, I’m Evelin, but I’d be glad if you just call me Eva. I’m from Ukraine. I speak 4 languages and now learning Korean^^
Six years’ worth of experience made me a producer and director. Mostly I’m working on commercials in Ukraine, Europe and US. You can watch my showreel by the link down below.

My bachelor degree is in Journalism, so I also have been working as a writer in a few magazines during my university years. But my heart always was in motion picture, which I believe is the best implementation of one’s vision.
When I was 18, I created a Movie theatre at the beach in my hometown. Later on, I started to shoot my own vids (which I’m so embarrassed of now kkk). Slowly I understand that I’m having more fun and satisfaction from creating and managing the whole production processes, rather than just holding a camera. That’s how I started the producing path, which I adore with all my heart.

안녕하세요. 에블린입니다. 그냥 에바라고 불러주시면 더 좋겠어요. 저는 우크라이나에서 왔어요. 4개 국어를 할 줄 알고, 지금은 한국어를 배우고 있죠.
저는 6년 간의 경험 끝에 프로듀서 겸 감독이 되었어요. 주로 우크라이나, 유럽, 그리고 미국에서 광고 작업을 하고 있죠. 제 작품은 아래의 링크에서 보실 수 있어요.

제 학사 학위는 저널리즘이었고, 그래서 대학 시절엔 여러 잡지에서 작가로 일했어요. 하지만 제 마음은 언제나, 한 개인의 비전을 가장 잘 구현해낸다고 믿는 영화 속에 있었어요.
제가 18살이었을 때, 저는 제 고향의 해변에 영화관을 만들었어요. 훗날, 저는 저만의 비디오를 찍기 시작했죠. (지금 보면 손발이 오그라드네요 ㅎㅎ) 서서히 저는 이해할 수 있었어요. 카메라를 들고만 있는 것이 아니라, 제작과정 전체를 만들고 관리할 때 제가 더 즐겁고 만족하고 있다는 것을요. 그것이야 말로 제가 진심으로 사랑해 마지 않는, 제작의 길을 걷게 된 계기입니다.

Q. We wonder why you came to Korea and why did you think you should learn Korean?

A. I always knew that eventually I will move to other country, so I was traveling a lot trying to figure out where will be the best place for me. I tried to live and work in US and Europe, but realized that mindsets and working culture there is not matching me. I always was closer to eastern then western mentality. Korean stile of work, mindset and even style fitting me so much that decision was undeniable. Nevertheless, according to my believes, in 5-8 years Korea will become a worldwide acknowledged leader of video production industry. So, I have big carrier goals which I’m planning to implement here.
However, I want to get a master degree in Media and Communication so I’m getting ready to apply to Korea University. The only thing missing is fluency in Korean. :D
That’s why I came here, to study language.

저는 항상, 제가 언젠가는 다른 나라로 향하게 될 것을 알고 있었어요. 그래서 저에게 완벽한 곳이 어디일까 찾아내기 위해 많은 여행을 했죠. 미국과 유럽에서 살면서 일하려고 노력했지만, 그곳의 사고방식과 작업 문화가 저와는 맞지 않는다는 것을 깨달았어요. 저는 서구의 사고방식보다, 동양의 사고방식에 가까웠어요. 한국 스타일의 작업과 마음가짐, 심지어 스타일까지 저에게 너무나 잘 맞았고, (한국으로 향하겠다는) 저의 결정을 부정하기 어려웠죠. 제 생각엔, 5~8년 안에 한국은 세계적으로 인정받는 영상 제작 산업의 리더가 될 것 같아요. 그래서 저는 한국에서 이뤄내고자 하는 커리어 목표가 있죠.
그러나 저는 미디어 커뮤니케이션 석사 학위를 받고 싶어서, 대학원에 지원할 준비를 하고 있어요. 부족한 것은 오직 유창한 한국어뿐이죠. 그래서 어학연수를 위해, 금강대로 왔어요.

Q. So, what was your impression of Geumgang University?

A. It’s a personal challenge for me, to survive in a rural aria. I always been a city girl, I enjoy the speeding big cities. It matches my energy. But as I’m a 100% workaholic and during corona years I’ve been not able to have a vacation, I decided that Geumgang University will be the best place to combine retreat and studying and also try something new. 
Of course, I was shocked with the absence of convenient stores in walking distance. And I still believe that situation will change soon.
But I’m really satisfied with the overall studying process here, and never regret my choice.

시골 지역에서 살아가는 건 제게는 개인적인 도전이에요. 저는 항상 도시 소녀였고, 속도감 있는 대도시를 즐기죠. 왜냐면, 제가 가진 에너지와 꼭 맞거든요. 그런데 저는 100% 워커홀릭이고, 또 코로나로 보낸 몇 년 동안 휴가를 보낼 수 없었던 만큼, 작업과 공부를 병행하고 새로운 시도를 할 최적의 장소는 바로 금강대학교라고 판단했어요.
물론, 걸어갈 수 있는 거리에 편의점이 없었던 것에 조금 놀라긴 했어요. 이러한 상황이 곧 바뀔 것이라고 믿어요.
그래도 저는 이곳의 전반적인 한국어 교육 과정에 매우 만족하며, 절대 저의 선택을 후회하지 않아요.

Q. What kind of experiences do you expect to have at Geumgang University?

A. All that I have now: good company, concentration on studying processes, relaxing atmosphere.

제가 기대했던 경험들은 이미 모두 가지고 있어요. 좋은 동료들과, 학습 과정에 집중하며, 편안한 분위기 속에서 지내고 있죠.

Q. Do you have any advice for Geumgang University students who dream of exchanging languages or studying abroad?

A. Just do it. Never hesitate and don’t be scared. Positive mindset is always the best helping hand :)
